Pastoral Region Announcements for March 10, 2019

CAST YOUR NETS high school youth event will be Sunday, March 10 from 4:00-8:30 pm at Sacred Heart in McCartyville.  With Mass, great speakers, a pizza dinner and more.   Parents are also invited to join in.  With questions, contact Kevin Schulze at kevins@nflregion.org.

HOMEMADE BEEF-N-NOODLE OR CHICKEN-N-NOODLE DINNER sponsored by Houston Community Center, will be on Sunday, March 10 from 10:30 am-1:00 pm. Also included in the meal is mashed potatoes, vegetable and salad, punch or coffee.  Homemade desserts and cans of pop or bottles of water will be available.  Donations are accepted.

OUR NEXT SENIOR CITIZEN EVENT is a tour of Lincoln Electric in Fort Loramie at 10:00 am on Tuesday, March 12.  Contact Rose at the POC to reserve a spot.

FORT LORAMIE MEN’S CONFERENCE “GPS: God’s Plan for Sainthood” is Saturday, March 16 from 7:00 am-3:00 pm at St. Michael Hall.  The day will include great speakers, adoration, confession, and fellowship with over 200 Catholic men (high school age and older).  $25 registration includes breakfast and lunch.  RSVP to Kevin at 937-726-1295.

2019 TASTE AND SEE UGANDA will spotlight the Pearl of Africa on Thursday, March 21 from 6:00-7:30 pm at St. Michael Hall.  Doors open at 5:30 pm.  After the simple supper, Fr. Ruffino Ezama, a native of Uganda, will talk on serving the poorest and most abandoned, empowering people to be great agents of their society.  RSVP for this free event thru the website or contact Ann at the POC.  If you are willing to prepare a recipe from Uganda (recipe provided), make a note on your reservation.

CRS RICE BOWLS are available at the entrances of both churches.  Pick up your Rice bowl today and make a commitment to Pray, Fast, Learn and Give.

  1. VINCENT DE PAUL ENVELOPES are in your offertory box this month or online donations may be made from the home page of our Pastoral Region website under the “We Share” tab. More than 20 families use the SVDP Food Pantry on the 3rd Saturday of each month at the POC. In addition, SVDP assists with rent, electric and heating costs for those in need.  Thanks for your continued support!

MENTOR COUPLES ARE NEEDED to work with newly engaged couples to prepare for marriage.  Requirements are married at least 10 years and living in conformity to church teachings.  Contact Rose or Lisa at the POC if interested.

THE RIGHT OF ACCEPTANCE was celebrated at masses the last few weeks.  Please pray for Brittany Foster, Meredith Britton (wife of Corey Britton), and Lindsay Grillot (wife of Alan Grillot) as they continue their spiritual journey and plan to enter the Catholic church at Easter.

INTERESTED IN BECOMING CATHOLIC or know someone who is?  We are meeting with those interested this spring.  This group will begin exploring the Catholic faith by meeting every other week thru the spring and summer.  Contact Rose at the POC if interested.

LENTEN PROGRAM ON THEOLOGY OF THE BODY will be held in the basement of St. Denis Church in Versailles on March 14, 21, 28, and April 4 from 7:00-8:30 pm.  There is no charge.  For more information, contact Jane Pierron at 937-526-4945.

ANNUAL RIGHT TO LIFE GARAGE SALE will be held Thursday-Saturday, March 21-23 at St. Remy Hall in Russia.  Hours will be 9:00 am-7:00 pm Thursday and Friday, and 9:00 am-12:00 noon on Saturday.  Donations of clean and salable items may be made by contacting the Right to Life Office at 498-1812 to arrange for drop off.

THE FAMILY OF THELMA MEYER would like to thank Fr. Steve, Deacon Paul, Louie Gehret and staff, the adult mass servers, Amy Noykos and the funeral choir, Jan Stockman and the funeral lunch helpers, Knights of St. John Auxiliary, St. Michael CCD teachers, family members, friends and neighbors for their love and support, prayers and participation in celebrating the life of our Mom, Thelma Meyer.  There are so many people who touched our Mom’s life and to them we are forever grateful.”

FINDING PEACE, BALANCE & JOY AS A MOM, a new small group experience, will begin on March 4 for 8 weeks on Mondays from 6:30-8:30 pm at the POC.  Available to the first 8 women to register.  Cost is $30.  Register on-line or contact Rose at the POC.

PASTORAL REGION KINDERGARTEN will not take place this Wednesday, March 6 due to Ash Wednesday, which is a Holy Day of Obligation.  Classes will resume next week.

CRS RICE BOWL is a Lenten parish program supported by the U.S. Catholic Bishops.  It begins Ash Wednesday, March 6.  Please pick up your rice bowl and make a commitment this Lent to PRAY-FAST-LEARN-GIVE.

FOUR GREAT DATES:  Instead of giving up chocolate, candy or pop for Lent, how about going on a date with your spouse 4 times?  Each date will start with a 10-minute DVD and a handout with suggested discussion questions, and then you’re on your own!  Options of where to attend are in the SM Chapel immediately following Saturday’s 5:00 pm mass or in the SPP Family Life Center immediately following Saturday’s 6:30 pm mass.  Cost is free!  Date Nights are March 9, 23, and 30, and April 13.

OUR PASTORAL REGION JR/SR GIRLS CYO TEAM has made it to the state tournament, which will be held next weekend, March 8, 9, and 10 in Cleveland.  We wish our girls the best of luck on their tournament journey!

CENTURY FARM AWARD:  Catholic Rural Life of the St. Marys and Sidney Deaneries is now accepting applications for the 2019 Catholic Century Farm Award, recognizing families who have farmed the same land for 100 years or more.  Information and application can be found at www.catholiccincinnati.org/ministries-offices/catholic-social-action/rural-life-ministry.  Due date for return of the application is March 31.

THANK YOU to everyone who attended and helped in any way to make our 2019 Generations of Faith Event such a huge success.  The food was great, the show was fun and hopefully, everyone left with inspiration for their Lenten journey.  Thanks also to Wagner’s IGA, Casey’s General Store and Walmart for their generous donations of those delicious cookies!

A MESSAGE FROM CONCEPCION:  “I want to tell you that my grandmother Concepcion is in good health thanks to God.  She just finished therapy and it has been very useful.  She tries to stand on her own.  (Conception is 96 years old.  She is regaining strength from a fractured hip that happened in 2015).  She loves candies and snacks that my uncle Alberto gives her.  In August, there was the annona harvest (a fruit similar to Ohio’s pawpaw).  She ate a lot because they are so delicious.  With affection and love, Conception and her family.”  Sponsored thru Unbound since 2007 from El Salvador.

St. Michael
SM GENERATIONS OF FAITH EVENT is this Wednesday, February 27.  Doors at St. Michael Hall will open at 5:00 pm, giving you plenty of time to find a seat and get beverages from one of the four beverage tables located among the seating area.  Dinner will be served at 5:30 pm following an opening prayer led by Fr. Steve.  We will start clearing tables at approximately 6:15 pm and Brad Brown Magic will provide entertainment beginning at 6:30 pm.  With a closing prayer, the evening will wrap up at 7:30 pm.  If you did not RSVP and would like to attend, contact Deb at the CCD Office to inquire about any remaining seats available.

CASSEROLES FOR A CAUSE REMINDER:  Drop-off is Monday, February 18 from 6:00-7:00 pm at the St. Michael Hall parking lot and the parking lot behind SPP Church.  You may drop off at either location.  Make sure all casseroles are labeled and frozen.  With questions, contact Peg Pleiman at 492-3313.  Thanks for all your support!

BLOODMOBILE will be held on Tuesday, February 19 from 11:00 am-7:00 pm at St. Michael Hall.  All donors need photo ID, should be in good health, eat well and drink extra water.  Appointments may be scheduled online at www.donortime.com or call 295-3100.

RADIO MARIA BRUNCH BUFFET will be Sunday, February 24 from 9:00 am-1:00 pm at Speedway Lanes in New Bremen.  This is an all-you-care-to-eat breakfast buffet with lunch items available after 10:00 am.  Cost is $9.99 for adults, $5.99 for ages 3-10, and free for ages 2 and under.  Proceeds benefit Radio Maria WHJM 88.7 FM.

SM GENERATIONS OF FAITH EVENT ON FEBRUARY 27:  We hope you can join us for food, fun and fellowship to inspire us as we enter the Holy Season of Lent.  In order to ensure we have adequate seating and for meal planning, please have your RSVP turned in by this week Wednesday, February 20.  We are able to accommodate 450 guests for this event.    Please RSVP thru the parish website or the forms at the SM Church entrances.  Contact Deb at the CCD Office with questions.
